Comparison between catalytic and photocatalytic activity in gas-solid regime of semiconductor oxides and carbon nanotubes supported Keggin heteropoly…
2015
Catalytic and photocatalytic 2-propanol dehydration was carried out by using a supported Keggin heteropolyacid H3PW12O40 (PW12). Binary materials were prepared by impregnation and/or solvothermal treatment by using commercial supports: SiO2 (Mallinckrodt), TiO2 (Evonik P25) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (Sunnano) or home solvothermically prepared SiO2 and TiO2. All the materials have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy observations (SEM) coupled with EDX microanalysis, specific surface area measurements, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. (Photo)catalytic 2-propanol dehydration was studied in gas-solid regime by usin…
Supported Poly(Ionic Liquid)-Heteropolyacid Based Materials for Heterogeneous Catalytic Fructose Dehydration in Aqueous Medium
2022
Two sets of four different supported catalyst materials were prepared. One set was obtained by polymerization of a bis-vinylimidazolium salt, which formed a poly(ionic liquid) coating on SiO2, TiO2, boron nitride BN, and carbon nitride C3N4. The other set was, instead, obtained by immobilizing Keggin heteropolyacid H3PW12O40 onto poly-imidazolium functionalized materials. All the catalysts, including the bare supports, were subjected to physical and chemical characterization by XRD, SEM, Specific Surface Area and pore size measurements, TGA, FTIR, and acidity-basicity measurements. The catalytic activity of the materials was tested versus the fructose dehydration in water solution at two di…

Keggin heteropolyacid H3PW12O40 supported on different oxides for catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted propene hydration
2013
Catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted hydration of propene to form 2-propanol in gas–solid regime at atmospheric pressure and 85 1C were carried out by using a heteropolyacid (POM) supported on different oxides. Binary materials were prepared by impregnation of H3PW12O40 on different commercial and home prepared supports (TiO2, SiO2, WO3, ZrO2, ZnO, Al2O3). Some of the composites were active both for catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted reactions. The Keggin type POM was completely and partially degraded, when supported on ZnO and Al2O3, respectively, and these binary solids always resulted as inactive for both catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted reactions. The supported Keggin POM sp…
Heteropolyacid-Based Heterogeneous Photocatalysts for Environmental Application
2015
Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a wide class of discrete nanosized transition metal–oxygen clusters. The synthesis of POMs has received great interest not only because they present intriguing architectures but also because they have potential applications in catalysis, medicine, electrochemistry, materials design or models for self-assembling nanoscale systems. Recently, POMs have also been studied as green and cheap photocatalysts. The potentialities of POMs are attributed to their unique structural features; indeed, POMs are photostable and non-toxic, have oxygen-rich surfaces and excellent redox properties and possess photochemical characteristics similar to those of the semiconductor photoc…
Role of the support and pseudo-liquid phase in the Phosphotungstic Heteropolyacid (photo)catalytic activity
2016
Catalytic and photocatalytic tests for propene hydration to 2-propanol were successfully carried out by using binary materials obtained by supporting a Keggin or Wells-Dawson heteropolyacids via impregnation method to commercial SiO2 or TiO2. (Photo)catalytic hydration was studied in gas-solid regime by using a continuous (photo)reactor working at atmospheric pressure and 80 °C. The alcohol was the main product. The acidity of the cluster accounts for the catalytic role, whereas both the acidity of the cluster and the oxidant ability were responsible for the increase of the reaction rate of the photo-assisted catalytic reaction. Moreover, the presence of a photoactive semiconductor support …
Photocatalytic conversion of glucose in aqueous suspensions of heteropolyacid-TiO2 composites.
2015
Photocatalytic conversion of glucose was carried out in aqueous suspensions in the presence of dfifferent commercial and home prepared TiO2 samples functionalized with a commercial heteropolyacid. Different reaction extents and distribution of intermediate oxidation products were observed depending on the photocatalyst.
Enhanced (photo)catalytic activity of Wells-Dawson (H6P2W18O62) in comparison to Keggin (H3PW12O40) heteropolyacids for 2-propanol dehydration in gas…
2016
Abstract Catalytic and photocatalytic 2-propanol dehydration to propene at atmospheric pressure and a temperature range of 60–120 °C were carried out in gas-solid regime by using bare and supported Keggin H 3 PW 12 O 40 (PW 12 ) and Wells-Dawson H 6 P 2 W 18 O 62 (P 2 W 18 ) heteropolyacids (HPAs). Binary materials were prepared by impregnation of the HPAs on commercial SiO 2 and TiO 2 . The Wells-Dawson was in any case more active than the Keggin heteropolyacid and the differences were enhanced when the supported samples were used. In particular, Wells-Dawson HPA supported on TiO 2 and under irradiation showed the highest activity. The HPA species played the key role both in the catalytic …
Supported Keggin heteropolyacid catalysts for glycerol acetylation
2017
Heteropolyacids (HPAs) are a class of molecular metal oxides called polyoxometalates, with a heteroatom in the cluster structure forming an oxo-metallic cluster with the addenda metal atoms. Due to the tunable acid-base and redox properties, HPAs have been used as catalysts both for homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions. Many efforts have been devoted to HPAs heterogeneization because, being soluble in polar solvents, their separation and recovery in liquid-solid regime reactors is a relevant practical application problem. Moreover, due to the low specific surface areas (1÷10 m2 g-1) their dispersion on supports with high surface area can increase the accessibility of the reacting species…
